The End of things [Jul. 12th, 2013|06:59 am]

Oh Kai....

No way i could have known that when i said goodbye to you this morning, it would be the last goodbye. That the hug i gave you, would be the last shared with you alive.
Nothing told me that the limp you had in your leg was something so life threatening, so dangerous, in stead of the relative benign cause we all thought it was.

The X-rays however, told a different story.

I'm so sorry Kai.
Sorry for not seeing the impossible. Sorry for not being able to see under your skin. See through your bones. So we could beat the cancer before it beat you.

It is all hindsight my good friend, i know.
Pointless, useless. A waste of emotion and bitter tears.
Thoughts of what could have been, and what should have been. All in vain.

My dear Kai....
Nine and a half wonderful years we've shared together. You've changed my life. Changed it for the better.

Sadly our roads part here, and now the time has come to say goodbye.

So i say so long.

Goodbye Kai, my beloved Fuzzball. Farewell my dear and good friend. Sleep tight.
I will always keep you safely in my heart.

Kai had his stitches removed yesterday. I have to say it healed up quite nicely.

The first picture is a close-up of his left bum. There are a few small crusts / scabs left.
The second one is from his neck.
Because he ripped out one stitch about a day after he had his surgery, it bled for a bit, and formed a scab. It was a bit of a hassle to get the stitches out of that spot as a concequence. Try holding a struggling Malamute down by yourself while your vet fiddles around with a sharp tool :) But after some fiddling, the job was done.
Now he needs to grow some fur back!

This morning, i took Kai to my vet around 9:45 for his surgery. Kai got the anaesthetic injection in his left bum, and after about 5 minutes, he went *thudzzzzzzz*.
After helping the assistant carry a numb and floppy Fuzzball to the surgery room and giving him one more check-over for any more cysts and anomalies, i left the practice and went back home.

Around 15:00 i received a phone-call that he was emerging out of his sleep, and that i could pick him up around 16:00.

The wound on his left thigh is considerably bigger than i expected it would be. It was kind of a shock to be honest. I guess that damn thing was even bigger than i thought intentionally. I am glad Kai is rid of it. Apart of the huge cut on his thigh, he also has a 4 cm wound in his neck, where another smaller cyst was. Hopefully his recovery will be swift and without problems!

I scheduled a consult with my vet to have a look at the huge lump on Kai's rear left thigh.
The lump is a cyst, most probably caused by a clogged up sebaceous gland. Not really harmful, but given the size of it (a tennis ball), it's becoming a worry.

Given the exceptional good shape Kai is in for his age (he turned 11 last May), the risk of the general anaesthetic is present, but acceptable. So i agreed with a surgical procedure to have the cyst removed.
And while Kai's under, might as well take core of some other things too, like dental cleaning.
Yay for fresh breath!

The surgery is scheduled for next Thursday morning, 10:00.
I have taken the day off so i can be there when he goes under.
Like i already stated, the risk is low, but there's still a possibility that it's a last goodbye.

Life is never dull with malamutes! The old fat one, Kato, recently had a 13th birthday so in order to celebrate here's a video and a few pics.
